Comparison websites give surprisingly easy access to your data.

The use of comparison websites to search for products such as car insurance and mortgages could make personal data extremely easy for 3rd parties to access.

It is because the method of retrieving stored quotations on these systems often requires no password, but instead basic information such as your email address, last name and birthday.

Once a quote has been retrieved, a wealth of information is then available, in some cases extending to salary and employment information.

Registered a Domain Name?
A similar issue is also highlighted when registering a domain name for the Internet. Registrant’s details are stored on the WHOIS database, which is free to look up, and could reveal your home address and telephone number.

UK domain names do offer an opt-out of the WHOIS database but this only applies to individuals registering the domain name.
