Established in 1958, Tugwell Contracting is a family-run business based near Cirencester, Gloucestershire. The company provides a wide range of services across the agricultural, construction, landscaping, fencing and grounds maintenance sectors, with particular expertise supporting solar farm and renewable energy projects throughout the UK and Ireland.
About the Project
Tugwell Contracting engaged Assent Risk Management to support the implementation of three internationally recognised management standards: ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety.
The project aimed to establish an integrated management system that supported the organisation’s commitment to consistent service delivery, environmental responsibility, employee wellbeing and continual improvement.
The scope of the project included developing and implementing documented processes, integrating the three management systems, conducting internal audits and preparing Tugwell Contracting for third-party certification.
Our Approach
Assent assigned ISO Consultant Charlotte Rashidi to guide the project from initial implementation through to certification.
Working closely with the Tugwell Contracting team, Charlotte supported the development of an integrated management system tailored to the organisation’s operations and business objectives. This included reviewing existing processes, developing management system documentation and ensuring the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 were effectively embedded throughout the business.
Following implementation, Assent conducted an internal audit to assess conformity with the standard, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure the organisation was fully prepared for certification.
Charlotte then provided support throughout the external audit process, helping the team confidently navigate both Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits with BAB.
Outcome
Tugwell Contracting successfully passed their Stage 2 audits with UKAS-accredited certification body BAB, achieving certification to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
Achieving three ISO certifications within a year was a significant achievement for the business and demonstrated the commitment of the Tugwell Contracting team to quality, environmental management and occupational health and safety.
Following the successful certification process, Tugwell Contracting continued their relationship with Assent for ongoing support.
Client Comment:
We went from not having heard of ISO to passing 9001, 14001 and 45001 within a year. The Admin team was very helpful and Charlotte was excellent. She held our hand throughout the procedure, doing mock Audits nearer the time and putting us through a similar process.
During the actual Audits, Charlotte was present or available via Teams to answer any tricky questions and even pushback and question the Auditors. Charlotte is also an Auditor, so isn’t a pushover! Good to have her on your Team.
