Developed by Kathy Clements in association with Assent Risk Management, the IDEA Standard provides a practical framework to help organisations create workplaces where people feel valued, supported and able to thrive. It is designed to increase awareness and understanding of diverse needs while helping organisations embed inclusive practices across their operations.
Why IDEA Matters
The business case for inclusion has never been stronger. Whilst organisations must meet their legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010, there are also significant benefits to creating a more inclusive and accessible workplace. These include stronger employee engagement, improved wellbeing, enhanced reputation, and a more positive organisational culture.
Conversely, failing to consider individual needs can have legal, commercial and reputational consequences, as well as negatively affecting the physical and mental wellbeing of employees and other stakeholders.
How the IDEA Scheme Works
The IDEA Scheme follows three straightforward stages:
The IDEA Standard – A framework document that sets out best practice requirements across key areas of an organisation.
Implementation – Organisations introduce the policies, processes, awareness activities and other improvements needed to meet the standard. Guidance Notes and a Template Pack are available to support implementation.
Assessment and Pledge Mark (Optional) – Organisations can choose to undergo an annual assessment and, if successful, display the IDEA Pledge Mark as a visible demonstration of their commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility.
