AS9100 is the quality management system for aerospace covering anything that goes into our skies, and all the associated components and supply chains.
With standards consultancy being largely unregulated it can be difficult to choose the right consultant to help you implement the standard, support you QMS moving forward or conduct internal audits.
Here are some things to consider when looking for AS9100 support.
Qualifications
Finding a consultant who has some formal training in the latest revision of AS9100 is a good start. There are many reputable courses around that give a solid foundation.
However due to the specialist nature of AS9100, training alone may not be enough to attain competence in the standard.
Industry Experience
Experience in the Aerospace industry is essential in providing competent AS9100 advice. Many of Assent’s AS9100 consultants have spent years in the RAF, civil engineering or a related manufacturing/engineering role.
AS9100 Experience
Aside from industry experience, specific AS9100 experience under the guidance of a mentor or experienced consultant/auditor is also important.
Our consultants benefit from a network of advisors and peers who support each other.
Aerospace Experienced Auditors (AEA)
The ultimate step is attaining AEA status. This involves a much more thorough training course, backed by verified aerospace industry experience and a log of recently conducted audits under supervision.
Consultants who are also AEAs possess a unique vantage point by being eligible to conduct external audits for AS9100 certification bodies as well as working with clients at the consultancy level. They will know what auditors look for in a robust QMS and can support you adequately.
If they are conducting audits for a certification body they will ensure there is no conflict of interest by segregating consultancy clients from certification work.
