BS 25999 Business Continuity Management

The BS 25999 Business Continuity Management family consists of part 1 - code of practice and part 2 - specification. Certification to the standard is against BS 25999-2 Specification. There are several UKAS accredited bodies providing certification to this standard.

The standard provides a framework for effective business continuity management including:

- identifying potential risks and impacts to the organisation,
- developing a continuity strategy,
- linking disaster recovery procedures with continuity plans,
- testing the continuity plans,
- and continually improving the system.

Relationship to ISO 27001
ISO 27001 Information Security Management System includes Annex A14 'Business Continuity Management', which can be expanded to meet the requirements of BS 25999-2.
